The Story Behind the Shop
Thompson's Hearth & Hand was founded by Mara Thompson right here in Bozeman, Montana — born from a deep love of craft and a belief that the objects in our homes should mean something. Mara started the shop after years of making pottery in her garage studio, selling pieces at the local farmers market and watching customers light up when they held something truly handmade. That spark became a shop.
The mission has always been simple: connect the hardworking craftspeople of Montana with the people who will love their work most. Every item on our shelves was made by a real person — a potter, a woodworker, a beekeeper, a weaver — and we'll happily tell you their story. We believe knowing the maker makes the piece even more meaningful.
Our values are rooted in honesty, quality, and community. We don't carry anything we wouldn't be proud to give as a gift. We show up for local artisans by paying them fairly and giving their work the spotlight it deserves. We keep our shop cozy, our shelves curated, and our door open wide — whether you're a Bozeman local stopping by on your lunch break or a first-time visitor exploring town.
We know that shopping small matters. Every dollar spent here stays in Montana, supports a local maker, and helps keep handcraft alive in an age of mass production. We're endlessly grateful for the loyal community that has made Thompson's Hearth & Hand what it is today — and we can't wait to welcome you in.

What People Are Saying
★★★★★
"I wandered into Thompson's Hearth & Hand on a rainy October afternoon and immediately felt like I'd found somewhere special. I bought a set of stoneware mugs and a carved serving board, and six months later they're still my most-used and most-loved things in my kitchen. Mara took the time to tell me about the potter who made the mugs — that story makes every morning coffee feel meaningful."

"We were visiting Bozeman from Denver for a long weekend and stumbled upon this shop — best accident of the whole trip. The shop itself is beautifully arranged, and everything feels intentional and warm. I bought beeswax candles, a set of wooden spoons, and a little ceramic bud vase. All three are now centerpieces in my apartment. We'll be back every time we visit Montana."

"I've been shopping here for two years and Mara's shop never disappoints. The seasonal home goods are always fresh and perfectly curated — the dried wildflower wreath I bought last fall is still on my front door and gets compliments every single week. I always pick up a batch of the herbal fire starters for myself and a few as gifts. There is no better shop in Bozeman, full stop."
